Betsy Thomas has deep roots in the art world, having worked in the industry for over 25 years. As an art specialist, appraiser, writer and educator, she is passionate about channeling her insights and knowledge of the sector to new and experienced clients of all types using a critical and informed approach to all aspects of acquisitions and sales.
Over a 15-year career in the auction industry at Christie’s in New York, she held several positions in departments including Old Masters Paintings, Prints, Impressionist & Modern Art, her longest tenure in the company as Associate Specialist and Vice President in the 19th Century European Paintings Department. In this role, she managed high value appraisals and sale consignments working directly with private collectors, museums and estates.
Ms. Thomas is Adjunct Faculty at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She teaches in the Masters of Art Business Program as well as in the online premier courses, where she teaches "The Art of Collecting." Ms. Thomas holds a B.A. in the History of Art and Italian from Pomona College and an M.A. in from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. She is Chair of the American Alumni Association of the Courtauld. She is fluent in Italian and is a AAA Certified USPAP Fine Art Appraiser.
